ULS BMLS Program Conducts Community Healthcare Service in Brgy. Abra

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) of the College of Medicine and Allied Medical Programs (CMAMP) of the University of La Salette, Inc. (ULS) conducted a community healthcare service program for residents of Barangay Abra, Santiago City on May 9, 2026.

The medical mission , conducted as part of the immersion component of the Community and Public Health course, provided a range of services, including health promotion talks, medical check‑ups, vital signs monitoring, distribution of free medicines and supplements, free X‑ray services, and relief packs. Parlor games were also organized for children in the community.

Barangay Abra, identified as a ULS High School outreachadopted community, was selected as the site of the activity in coordination with the La Salette Pananagutan Center (LSPC), the Santiago City Health Office, and the Barangay Government of Abra.

The program was implemented by student volunteers from the BMLS program, led by Jed Lloyd Gilo, RMT, IMT; Rizza Marie Tan, RMT, DTA; Marian Joyce Picio, RMT, MSPH; and Romelli Andrea Danao, RMT, under the supervision of Associate Dean Marisa Tan, RMT, RN, MSPH, DPasmap.

Support for the activity was also provided by the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Program, represented by alumni volunteers Mariz Joy Picio, RPh, and Jemille Mabbayad, RPh, and the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology (BSRT) Program, led by Maegan Balisi, RRT. Volunteer alumni physicians Ellaine Mawirat, RPh, MD, and Mariel Del Rosario, RPh, MD, assisted in delivering medical services.

Additional assistance was extended by Nurse Tricia Obra and volunteers from the ULS High School Red Cross Youth.
