Dr. Bienvenido B. Abad Jr., Dean of the College of Information Technology (CIT) and Director of the Educational Management Information System (EMIS), and Jefferson T. De Guzman, faculty member of CIT represented the University of La Salette, Inc. (ULS) at the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) AI Roadshow 2026 held on July 23–24 at the Claude Andrews Auditorium Hall, Cagayan State University (CSU) Andrews Campus.
The two-day activity was organized by DICT Region II through the ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB) in partnership with Google and CSU.
With the theme “Empowering Educators, Advancing Innovation: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Responsible and Transformative Teaching and Research,” the roadshow brought together representatives from higher education institutions, government agencies, and local government units across the region.
The roadshow included discussions and hands-on sessions on the application of artificial intelligence in higher education. Participants explored the integration of generative AI tools into information technology instruction, research methodologies, and administrative processes, including Educational Management Information System (EMIS) workflows. Discussions also covered ethical AI frameworks, focusing on policies that support academic integrity, data protection, and responsible AI use among educators and students.
Participants likewise explored opportunities for cross-sectoral collaboration among ULS, DICT Region II, Google, and regional government agencies to support the development of an AI-ready academic ecosystem and advance digital transformation initiatives in the region.
Speaking on the value of attending the event, Dr. Abad said the activity provided insights that could support the university’s digital learning and operational initiatives.
“Participating in this regional AI capacity building hosted by DICT Region 2 and Google provides valuable insights for ULS as we enhance our digital learning and operational efficiency,” Dr. Abad said.
“Our goal is to cascade these learnings back to our academic community, upskilling our faculty, optimizing our campus systems, and ensuring Salettians are well-prepared for an evolving technological landscape.”
Following the activity, ULS representatives said the learnings gained from the training would support future faculty development programs, research initiatives, and technology-related projects within the university.
