Salettinian Community Engagement

A. Background

The University of La Salette, Inc., a Catholic institution founded by the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette, forms Reconcilers “so that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). Anchored in its Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Institutional Objectives, ULS commits itself to a culture of Pananagutan—faith-grounded accountability to God, to people, and to creation. Community engagement and extension services are integral functions of every higher education institution. Guided by the Salettinian core values of Faith, Integrity, Reconciliation, Excellence, and Solidarity, ULS views community engagement not as a peripheral activity, but as an essential expression of its identity as a missionary Catholic university. Extension programs, outreach activities, and service-learning initiatives are thus designed to be transformative—addressing the needs of society while forming graduates who are transformative leaders, reconcilers, industry-competent professionals, research-oriented innovators, ICT-proficient problem-solvers, critical thinkers, and holistic persons.

Extension involves communicating and transferring knowledge and technology to sectors outside the formal degree-enrolled population. The goal is to enhance productivity, strengthen institutional performance, and improve the overall quality of life of communities. It also includes the systematic transfer of innovation and information generated by HEIs and their partners to address development concerns.

B.Transformative Extension Services

Through the Community Extension Program Office – La Salette Pananagutan Center, ULS integrates academic expertise and community needs by implementing programs that emphasize:

  • Technology Transfer and Utilization – Making research outputs, innovative practices, and tools usable by communities and partner institutions.
  • Capacity Building – Offering training programs in leadership, literacy, health, disaster preparedness, and entrepreneurship to foster resilience and self-reliance.
  • Technical Assistance and Consultancy – Providing advisory services to communities, organizations, and institutions to strengthen their performance and effectiveness.
  • Volunteerism – Mobilizing students, faculty, employees, parents and alumni as partners in nation-building, nurturing a culture of service, and empowering future leaders.
  • Information Dissemination and Outreach – Extending knowledge through public education campaigns, advocacy initiatives, and direct community services.
  • Sustainable Partnerships – Working hand in hand with local governments, NGOs, schools, and community organizations to ensure long-term, meaningful impact.

C. Programs and Initiatives

The Community Extension Program Office (CEPO) of the University of La Salette, Inc. is the institution’s designated office for all community engagement activities—including extension programs, outreach services, service-learning initiatives, and capacity-building efforts. Its physical location is the La Salette Pananagutan Center (LSPC), which has long been recognized as the hub of volunteerism and community service at ULS. Over the years, “LSPC” has become a distinctive branding for the University, known nationwide for its strong culture of faith-driven volunteerism and its award-winning programs.

Extension service at ULS is more than assistance. It is about empowering communities, transferring knowledge and skills, and building resilience—creating pathways toward a more compassionate, just, and sustainable future.

Building stronger communities through the heart of Salettinian service—empowering lives and forming Salettinians toward the fullness of life.
