The Human Development Center (HDC) of the University of La Salette, Inc. (ULS), in collaboration with third‑year Bachelor of Science in Psychology students, conducted a mental health seminar in Barangay Nabbuan on May 25, 2026, under the HDC’s mental health program #ARAKUP.

The seminar aimed to promote mental health awareness, psychosocial understanding, and community engagement, contributing to efforts in fostering a healthier and more resilient community.
Jhoana Marie M. Guitering‑Reyes, RPsy, RPm, served as the first speaker, presenting an overview of the importance of mental health and its role in emotional resilience and overall well‑being. She addressed common misconceptions and emphasized that “mental health is not a weakness; it is a strength from within.”
The second speaker, Caryl Sarmiento, discussed Republic Act No. 11036, or the Philippine Mental Health Act, highlighting key principles such as confidentiality, dignity, and the protection of individual rights, as well as the importance of accessible mental health services.
Concluding the seminar, Tatiana Chloe Domingo introduced Sikolohiyang Pilipino perspectives, emphasizing culturally grounded approaches to coping, community support, and emotional expression. She underscored the importance of seeking help, noting that “it is okay not to be okay, and it is okay to ask for help.”
Through discussions and interactive activities, the seminar provided participants with a venue to better understand mental health concepts and encouraged greater awareness and openness within the community.
