TSP makes their mark in 21st LHEPC

Eight campus journalists from The Salettinian Publication (TSP), the official student publication of the University of La Salette, Inc., participated in the 21st Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) with the theme “Voices Ablaze: Campus Journalists as Vigilant Truth Tellers” held at NGN Gran Hotel, Tuguegarao City last March 17-19, 2026.

Julien Faye G. Kimayong, 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Psychology, won 1st place in News Writing (English), Frederick G. Martin, 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, won 3rd place in News Writing (Filipino), and Ryan P. Marquez, 3rd-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture, won 10th place in Poetry Writing (English).

Mark Cylex S. Agustin, 1st-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing, also represented Region II as Mr. CVACE 2026 and bagged the Mr. Photogenic special award during the Search for Ms. and Mr. LHEPC 2026.

“Through this experience, I realized the importance of cherishing new opportunities, because sometimes destiny unfolds in unexpected ways,” Marquez said in an interview where he shared his appreciation for the opportunity to represent the school, showcase Salettinian excellence in journalism and discover his purpose.

Joel P. Bembo, TSP moderator, expressed his affirmation to school’s participation in journalism events saying,   “As a former student journalist myself, I personally support regularly joining press conferences like RHEPC and LHEPC, mainly to give our Salettinian journos a platform and the opportunity to practice journalism beyond the campus.”

Bembo also emphasized the importance of this event in exposing Salettinian journalists to publications inside and outside Cagayan Valley and learn their best practices to improve the publication’s management and make ULS visible in the field of campus journalism.

This year’s LHEPC welcomed participants from Region 7 as a guest region and recorded 1,189 delegates from 167 schools. It was also announced that the first National Higher Education Press Conference will be held next year at Vigan City, Region I.
