Twenty-Six Students went through rigid pen-pushing exercises in the “SANLIYAB: Ang Pagtitipon” seminar-workshop held last August 17, 2019 at the University of La Salette, Audio Visual Room. The assembly was the first installment for the comprehensive training regimen of The Salettinian, the school’s official publication.
The write-shop aimed to engage students who have passion in writing to become purveyors of information about the internal and external transactions of the school with reliable facts to put into a meaningful context. It is also, in a way to squeeze out the best journalists that will represent the school in the upcoming Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC).
The Seminar-Workshop started with the opening remarks by the Editor-In-Chief of the official school paper, Mr. Jedlloyd Clarence Gilo. He said, “This workshop was designed to equip talented, competitive and committed writers with the fundamental journalism skills necessary for school paper, contests and school chores.”
The presentation of the editorial board for the A.Y. 2019-2020 took place after the opening remarks. Each of them shared their vision and journey to sprinkle inspiration to the young journalists.
The discussion for editorial, column, news and devcom writing was then conducted by Mr. Marc Angelo Martinez (Ed-In-Chief 2018). Then, literary and feature writing was presented by Ms. Hanzel L. Calangan (Ed-In-Chief 2016). Mr. Glenford O. Fernando (Ed-In-Chief 2017) delved with photojournalism and lay-outing. Different topics were introduced that concerns; current issues, social relevance, environment, sports, entertainment and even academic affairs.
In the afternoon weekend affair, participants of the seminar were asked to make an article revolving around the three given topics by the Mr. Jed Gilo, the current Ed-In-Chief. Together with the former Salettinian publication editors, they took turn in checking the submitted articles of the student journalists.
After all the events were held, the seminar-workshop squeezed out the best in participants and reawaken their passion in the field of journalism.
