The welfare of each individual student is the focus of Human Development Center. The school guides and supports the individual in his or her interpersonal and personal relationships by using special resources beyond its academic offerings.

A. ADMISSION

This program gives direction and selection to prospective students. It involves the study of credentials and entrance tests results as screening devices. Based on the current school performance reports and transcripts from previous schools attended with the result of the entrance tests, the counselor recommends the applicant for the course chosen by the student. The effectiveness of this program is measured by its ability to predict the academic success of the students in the curriculum offered by the school.

 

B. ORIENTATION

This service is given to acquaint the students with the following:

  1. The objectives and goals of the school.
  2. Rules, policies and regulations.
  3. School plant and facilities
  4. The administrators, faculty and staff.
  5. School activities, clubs and organizations.
  6. Some career guidance information.
  7. Provide students with a handbook containing all the needed information about University of La Salette, Inc. College Department rules, regulations and requirements. So that being acquainted with them, they will become:
  8. Well-adjusted to the school, their classmates, teachers and schools’ heads.
  9. More fully aware of their duties and responsibilities as students of the University

 

C. INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY

Each student is provided with a folder where data about him are filed. The folder contains his ID picture and information regarding his personal background, family, educational background, academic records, psychological test results, interviews and other relevant data.

 Objectives:

  1. To keep and build in a systematic way, individual record of each student.
  2. To furnish administrators, teacher counselors and parents’ pertinent data of students for the purpose of:
  • Assisting the student in assessing his abilities, capacities, interest and potentialities for better self-adjustment;
  • Vocational and career guidance
  • Evaluation and curriculum planning to help in the total development of the students.

 

D. COUNSELING

The Counseling Service aims to assist students to explore and understand themselves so that they can become self-directing individuals. Within the security and confidentiality of the counseling relationship, the students explore his fears, confusions, needs, values and choices in order to come up with insights, self-understanding and changes in behavior.

Specifically, it aims to:

  1. Develop in each student an awareness of His Christian uniqueness, his abilities, capacities and potentialities.
  2. Help understand and direct him and make adjustments to home, school and society so that he could attain a happy and a successful life hereafter.
  3. Help him develop life plans and assist him in making choice and decision regarding his stand on the economic, social, political and religious problems of his community and country as a whole, and help him emerge as a mature and responsible leader in the society.
  4. Help him grasp his real self-concept and to test his self-knowledge in terms of realities of life.

 

 E. TESTING

Tests reveal the abilities, achievements, interest and personality of each person, his uniqueness and similarity to others. The purpose of giving test is to gather reliable information about students to understand themselves better in order to make meaningful decisions.

Objectives:

The Human Development Center through its Testing Program aims to:

  1. Provide information to students about their strengths and weaknesses/difficulties in their mental ability, aptitude and personality.
  2. Enhance the students in making personal decisions in any aspect of their life-personal, socio-emotional and vocational.
  3. Assist shifting students in gathering information that will enable them to discover the right course to take and make wise career choices.
  4. Offer an avenue for counseling and going through the students’ intrapersonal process based on the battery of tests.
  5. Make necessary recommendations for the examinee/students to be monitored in the school.

 

F. INFORMATION

Information is imparted to stimulate the students to think over critical ideas, conditions and trends in order to derive meanings and implications for their present and future life.

 

G. JOB PLACEMENT AND FOLLOW-UP SERVICE

Follow-up is undertaken to check whether decisions made in the counseling sessions has been realized. It also meant to determine the effectiveness of the decision of the student in order to assist him in adjusting to other situations.

Follow-up is further extended to students who have graduated and dropped out of school.

Objectives:

  1. To assist students in their choice of careers considering their abilities and interests.
  2. To help the graduates in their job placement through coordination with various private and government institutions.

 

H. REMEDIAL AND ENRICHMENT

The school trough the study group program offers remedial activities to weak students and opportunities for enrichment to gifted students.

 

I. VOCATION AND CAREER GUIDANCE

This Guidance Service aims to assists the student in his/her career or vocation and life.
