The University of La Salette, Inc. (ULS) welcomed representatives from the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) on September 26, 2026, for a consultation, key informant interview, and institutional visit as part of the agency’s Research on Volunteerism in the Water Sector.

Donald James Gawe, Executive Director of PNVSCA, together with agency personnel, conducted the consultation with ULS representatives on the university’s volunteer programs, practices, partnerships, and community initiatives. The research seeks to document volunteer participation and practices in the water sector, identify contributions and challenges, examine enabling conditions and capacity-building needs, and develop recommendations for strengthening volunteer engagement in water-related and sustainable development initiatives.

Representing ULS during the consultation were Bernard Joseph L. Ariola of the Community Extension and Outreach Program–La Salette Pananagutan Center (CEOP-LSPC); James Alcantara of the Facilities Management Office; Dominick Domingo, NSTP Coordinator and SDG Focal Person; Levita Pasion, NSTP Facilitator and Graduate School Librarian; and members of the Salettinian Volunteer Association (SVA).

During the discussion, ULS representatives and student volunteers shared their experiences in volunteer mobilization, community engagement, institutional partnerships, and sustainability initiatives. They also discussed challenges in sustaining volunteer participation within the university and its partner communities.

The consultation also covered how ULS integrates volunteerism into community extension, student formation, service-learning, the National Service Training Program (NSTP), and sustainability-related programs.

The activity is part of the continuing partnership between ULS and PNVSCA in promoting volunteer participation and community-based initiatives for sustainable development.
