ULS participates in Indigenous Peoples’ Education Summit 2026

The University of La Salette, Inc. (ULS) joined the Indigenous Peoples’ Education Summit 2026 held on January 29, 2026, at the Global Center of St. Paul University Philippines, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. 

The summit, themed “Let Indigenous Futures Shine,” gathered higher education institutions, government agencies and cultural advocates to advance inclusive, culture-responsive education for Indigenous Peoples (IPs).

ULS was represented by Juli Marie Galicia, Coordinator of Culture and Arts; Aileen Bayang, TES Coordinator; and Joel P. Bembo, Director of the University Publication Office, along with students Steven Hans Ramos and Aristotle John Pelerio.

During the summit, Juli Marie Galicia was elected as one of the Co‑chairpersons in the province of Isabela in the Regional Indigenous Peoples’ Education Network (RIPE NET) 2 and subsequently took her oath of office together with other newly elected officers.

Atty. Ronaldo M. Daquioag, NCIP Regional Director for Region II, delivered the Keynote Message virtually.

The morning Knowledge‑Sharing Sessions featured a series of presentations led by invited experts. 

Atty. John Paul Tong opened the discussions with a session on Indigenous Peoples Sensitivity and Cultural Awareness. This was followed by Dr. Agnes S. Reyes, who delivered two consecutive presentations: one on Leadership in Culturally Sensitive Higher Education and another on Policies and Programs Ensuring Safe, Inclusive, and Responsive Higher Education. 

During the afternoon plenary, Isabela State University, Nueva Vizcaya State University, PNU North Luzon, Saint Mary’s University, and the Isabela Provincial Government Office presented their respective best practices and initiatives on Indigenous Peoples’ Education.

The summit concluded with cultural performances and a reaffirmation of the commitment of participating higher education institutions and agencies to strengthen inclusive, culture‑responsive educational programs for Indigenous communities across Region II.
