ULS Showcases Traditional Culture through Dunong

SANTIAGO CITY — The University of La Salette, Inc. (ULS), through the ULS Culture and Arts, launched Dunong, a program showcasing traditional Filipino culture, at the University Gymnasium today, October 24.

The program aimed to celebrate and promote awareness of Filipino traditions, including the proper wearing of native attire and traditional dances. It also brought together educators, performers, and cultural advocates to foster deeper appreciation for indigenous practices.

A highlight of the event was the participation of guest speaker Joey Cortez and his team from the Ifugao State University–Potia Campus, who demonstrated the appropriate donning of the bahag, tapis, and other traditional garments.

In his message, Cortez discussed the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) and emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity. “Indigenous people are a huge part of the heart of the nation. They play a vital role in shaping our society, and just like traditional weaving, we as a nation are intertwined like colorful threads,” he said.

The event concluded with a vibrant cultural dance performance featuring both student and guest performers, honoring Filipino heritage through artistic expression.

Dunong serves as a meaningful platform for the preservation and promotion of the Philippines’ rich cultural legacy.
