Santiago City, Cagayan Valley – The University of La Salette, Inc. Graduate School successfully hosted a pivotal “Student’s Orientation on Research Publication and Institutional Services,” themed “New chapters, new adventures, new knowledge to uncover.” This initiative aimed to empower graduate students with essential competencies in scholarly research and effective utilization of institutional resources.
Madeilyn B. Estacio, Ph.D., Dean of the Graduate School and the Vice President for Academic Affairs, in her statement of purpose, emphasized that the program aligns with CHED CMO 15 S. 2019, which stipulates research publication in reputable indexed journals as a condition for graduation. Dr. Estacio stressed that the orientation was designed to guide students through the research process, ensuring timely and skillful completion.

Key objectives of the program included fostering a research-oriented mindset, enhancing understanding of the peer-review process, guiding journal selection and publication standards, and ensuring compliance with research ethics and integrity. The ultimate goal is to prepare students to produce quality research that meets academic and professional standards, thereby contributing to research productivity and the advancement of knowledge.
Belinda A. Ramos, MD, MsPH, Director for Research and Editor-In-Chief of SOAR, delivered an in-depth presentation on “Research Publication as a Graduation Requirement.” Her discourse encompassed critical areas such as discerning predatory journals, optimizing advisor collaboration, navigating co-authorship, utilizing the university’s e-journal, ensuring ethical AI integration, identifying emerging research trends, exploring patent applications, aligning research with Sustainable Development Goals, and developing resilience in the face of research rejections.

Following Dr. Ramos’s lecture, faculty members of the Graduate School were introduced. The program then transitioned to an institutional orientation, featuring presentations from heads of various offices, including the Office of Student Services, Human Development Center, Educational Management Information Systems, Office of the Registrar, and Instructional Media Center.
