October 14-15, 2024 marked a significant milestone for Salettinian journalists as they gathered for the Blue Press: The Salettinian Community Joint Journalism Seminar-Workshop at the ULS New Gymnasium. This groundbreaking event was a collaborative effort and organization between ULS Student Publications from grade school, high school, and college departments fostering journalistic growth.
Renowned journalists Prof. Ben G. Domingo, Jr. and Mr. Jeffrey A. Rosete served as esteemed speakers for the seminar. Prof. Domingo, a multimedia practitioner with extensive experience in print, broadcast, and online journalism, shared his expertise in news reporting, feature reporting, sports reporting, and science and technology reporting. Mr. Rosete, a Master Teacher II, and journalist, focused on online publishing, collaborative desktop publishing, photojournalism, and editorial cartooning.
Professor Domingo Encourages Depth and Engagement in Journalism
In his lecture, Professor Domingo urged Salettinian journalists to delve beyond superficial reporting and create content that resonates with readers. He emphasized the importance of seeking out compelling stories and effectively conveying them to the audience.
Mr. Rosette Shares Insights on Digital Journalism
In a separate session, Mr. Jeffrey A. Rosette shared his expertise in various aspects of digital journalism. He covered online publishing, collaborative desktop publishing, photojournalism, and editorial cartooning. The session concluded with lectures on school paper management.
Salettinian journalists gained a deep understanding of various journalistic disciplines. The comprehensive program covered news reporting, feature writing, sports coverage, science and technology journalism, photojournalism, editorial cartooning, copyediting, and headline writing. Through these sessions, student journalists acquired essential knowledge and practical skills to thrive in the dynamic field of journalism.
Blue Press was a remarkable event that not only strengthened the journalistic abilities of Salettinian students but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration among different departments. It catalyzed future endeavors in journalism and reinforced the Salettinian commitment to excellence in education.
